That is the case. It is thought that in the past, huge volcanic eruptions could have
put enough aerosols into the atmosphere to have greatly affected weather for years. The
year without a summer following the eruption of the Tambora volcano in Indonesia in
1815 is one such case. A modern example of this effect (on a much smaller scale) is the
eruption of Mt. Pinatubo (see Ch. 17) in 1991.

Answer to Question 2

Research has shown that this is the case over broad swaths of Earth's history.
