Answer to Question 1

In general, south-facing windows capture the most solar energy at any time of
year. A window that allows sunlight through when the Sun is lower in the sky and does not
let it through when the Sun is high in the sky keeps the solar energy out during summer and
allows it in during winter.

Answer to Question 2

Photovoltaic cells produce direct current, while the electrical distribution system
uses alternating current. In order to make direct current into alternating current, inverters
must be used.
