Answer to Question 1

Answer: At a stream's headwaters, a stream's energy is focused on downcutting. Downstream the focus changes to a sinuous side-to-side motion. This reflects how the stream minimizes its resistance to flow and dissipates its energy along the course. Meanders are the form a stream takes as it adjusts its energy so that it can carry away all the sediment that it produces.
