Answer to Question 1

Answer: Pressure and water. Inside Earth, pressure increases with depth as a result of the increased load of rock above. As pressure increases, melting point increases. The water content of a rock also affects its melting point. Rocks with a higher water content have a lower melting point. Rocks with a low water content have a higher melting point.
