Answer to Question 1

Answer: A

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Much of the glare from surfaces is polarized in a plane matching that of the reflecting surface. Glare from water, for example, is horizontally polarized. Glasses that transmit only vertically-polarized light cut down on the glare, whereas regular sunglasses don't discriminate between glare and bright light.
