 In modernism, the work of literature stands as an independent whole, and its meaning and significance can be derived by applying logical systems of analysis to it.
 In postmodernism, analysis is opened up to include the various subjective experiences of readers, and the influence of the works historical and cultural situation on the writer and readers as equally or more important in understanding its meaning and significance, which are changeable.
