Why would it be more appropriate to refer to a client as a person with schizophrenia instead of calling that person a schizophrenic?

Common factors are part of psychotherapy not matter which theory you espouse, whereas specific factors are tied to a theory and dont exist in all therapies.

Answer:
Because one should avoid naming a person by their diagnosis because diagnostic labels can dehumanize the client.
