Answer to Question 1

The authors believe it is important for counseling group leaders to have a strong knowledge of theory to help members come to insight and understanding about the nature of their problems and their pain. In groups with counseling and therapy issues, the group process or dynamics alone will not be enough to help members. The authors also state that having a complex understanding of theory helps group leaders to teach it to members so that they can use it themselves and so they can help each other.
