 Most live in urban areas and have a moderate position in society.
 Most have been wage-earners instead of self-employed.
 Jobs reduced as product-making jobs decreased.
 African American women have less career mobility than African American men.
 35 or greater are considered middle class or higher.
 More African Americans are finding ways to attend college
 Still, only 13 percentage of African Americans obtain a bachelor's degree, with even fewer pursuing higher degrees.
 There appear to be fewer job prospects for African American women  and they lack important work skills which also puts them at a disadvantage.
 African American women choose traditional work roles.
Recommendations
 Personally and professionally aim towards being more inclusive. Heterogeneous career counseling groups.
 Exposure to non-traditional careers, especially for females.
 Exposure to African American mentors.
 Awareness of, exposure to and encouragement to pursue scholarships and post-secondary educational options.
 Demonstrate how to find transferable skills.
