The ethical codes of APA and ACA require computer assisted assessment software developers to provide empirical evidence of safety and effectiveness prior to making claims as to the effectiveness of their product.
 
  What is the situation regarding ethical standards regarding the provision of evidence before developers of self-help or therapeutic software market this material? They must provide evidence of:
