Answer to Question 1

ANSWER: Transition refers to the movement from school to adult life and the world of work.
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA-2004) specifies
that transition plans for students with disabilities be made beginning no later than the
first IEP after the student reaches age 16.

Answer to Question 2

ANSWER: Adolescents with learning disabilities have both the normal problems of adolescence
and the problems of learning disabilities. All adolescents have conflicts between
independence and security, experience rapid physical changes from developing
sexuality, have conflicts between peer and family pressures, and are self-conscious. In
addition, adolescents with learning disabilities may be passive learners, have poor selfconcept,
inept social skills, attention deficits, and lack motivation. All of these problems
add to the learning problems experienced by students with learning disabilities in high
school.
