Students should emphasize that normalization

 has two dimensions: (1) the way we interact with individuals and (2) the way we refer to them.
 is the reason why many persons with intellectual disabilities are in mainstream communities.
 is a concept that originated in Europe (Wolfsenberger).
 rests on the belief that a low level of cognitive functioning does not make a person any less human.
