ANSWER: Answers should include several key steps: (a) giving the teacher a timely, detailed, written notice of the charges; (b) providing a hearing and sufficient time to prepare a defense; (c) allowing the teacher to have legal counsel; (d) allowing the teacher to present written and oral evidence; and (d) the other steps outlined in Table 9.1.

ANSWER: If under the state law corporal punishment is allowed, a school district has the right to use corporal punishment. Local school boards have wide latitude to permit such behavior.
