In 1999, Congress adopted the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act
(ACPA), also called the Trademark Cyberpiracy Prevention Act, to prohibit cybersquatting.
The Act authorizes trademark owners to obtain a federal-court order transferring ownership of a domain name from a cybersquatter to the trademark owner.
