Answer to Question 1

Aquifers must be sufficiently porous and permeable to act as a storage medium and transmitter of water. Aquicludes may have low or high porosity, but must be relatively impermeable to restrict the passage of water.

Answer to Question 2

Rainwater that infiltrates the ground's surface drains by gravity downward through the zone of aeration until it reaches the water table. Water in the zone of saturation flows from areas of high water table elevation to areas of low water table elevation. This water sometimes intersects the surface to form springs where groundwater flows out onto the land surface.
