Answer to Question 1

Cinder cones, which are the smallest type of volcano, usually consist of predominantly gravel-sized pyroclastics. Gas-charged eruptions throw molten lava and solid pyroclastic fragments into the air. Falling under the influence of gravity, these particles accumulate around the almost pipe-like conduit for the eruption as a large pile of tephra.

Answer to Question 2

A magnitude 3.0 earthquake is actually much larger than a magnitude 2.0 because every whole number increase in magnitude represents amplitude that is 10 times greater and approximately 32 times more energy is released.
