What are the locations of some of the earliest settlements established by Norse (Viking) explorers in today's Canadian province of Labrador and Newfoundland?

Some of the earliest Norse settlements were established by explorers from Greenland in the L'Anse aux Meadows (Fr. Jellyfish Cove) on the northern tip of Newfoundland.

Answer to Question 2

Yes, because of global warming and the reduction of Arctic ice sheets, the Northwest Passage, now only open to reinforced ice-breaking vehicles, could be open to conventional craft for a few weeks per year in the summer.
