Culture hearths are areas that developed distinct cultural characteristics. These hearths served as source areas for further colonial expansion.

Answer to Question 2

Russian trappers had to compete with British and American competition and declining populations of fur-bearing animals due to overhunting. The Russian government made the decision that involvement in North America was no longer profitable.
