Receiving areas must be large enough to do receiving tasks, and basic tools and equipment will be required including scales and thermometers. Receiving data including vendor lists, product specifications, delivery times, and order lists should always be available. Deviations from receiving procedures must be noticed and corrected by managers.

Receiving staff must guard against security problems. They must ensure that product weights are correct and that there are no missing items.
