Answer to Question 1

The concept of vendor relations deals with ways purchasers interact with vendors. Relationships can range from I win; you lose to We win together. There are numerous factors that influence these relationships. These include the relative size of both organizations, whether a purchaser must rely on a vendor, their compatibility, and the extent to which one party commits extensive resources.

Answer to Question 2

The Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC) was created under the Civil Rights
Act of 1964 to administer Title VII of the act and to ensure equal employment opportunity. Its
powers were expanded in 1979 . Originally, the agency was responsible for investigating
discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Now it is also responsible
for investigating equal-pay violations and handicapped and age discrimination. Pre-employment
guidelines have been developed by the EEOC to help employers phrase application forms and
interview questions in a nondiscriminatory manner. The EEOC ensures that all applicants are
afforded the same employment opportunities. Chef supervisors and managers must be aware that
discrimination practices, even if they unintentionally violate individual civil rights, are against
the law. Discrimination is not only unfair, it is also illegal, and ignorance of the law is no
defense.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
