Answer to Question 1

Akers' theory agrees with differential association theory in that it also argues that criminal behavior is learned. It is also similar in the assertion that individuals are exposed to definitions favorable and unfavorable to the violation of law. Akers expanded on differential association theory by including the importance of differential reinforcements in influencing behavior. Differential reinforcements concern the rewards and punishments that are associated with engaging in a behavior.
