Research shows that the more involvement youths have with delinquent friends, the more likely it is that they will become delinquent themselves. In fact, associating with delinquents is one of the strongest predictors of juvenile delinquency. Social learning theory argues that juveniles learn delinquent behaviors from these delinquent peers and also receive reinforcements that encourage the continuation of delinquency.
