Answer to Question 1

White-collar exploitation occurs when an individual abuses his or her power or position in an organization to coerce people into making payments to him or her for services to which they are already entitled. If the payments are not made, the services are withheld. In most cases, exploitation occurs when the victim has a clear right to expect a service and the offender threatens to withhold the service unless an additional payment is made. In contrast, influence peddling occurs when individuals holding important institutional positions sell power, influence, and information to outsiders who have an interest in influencing the activities of the institution or buying information on what the institution may do in the future.
