Answer to Question 1

on the one hand, any type of negotiated justice that lessens the offender's penalty may add insult to the injury
on the other hand, trials can bring events and emotions that some victims don't
want to reexperience

Answer to Question 2

o a mutually satisfactory disposition of the case.
A defendant will plead guilty to the charges against her or him in return for a
o lighter sentence than the law requires. Defendants can also plead guilty and have charges dropped or reduced, which also ends in a reduced sentence. Prosecutors allow plea bargaining because they still get a conviction. If the prosecutor takes the case to tria,l the jury or the judge may not convict the
o defendant. Evidence may be weaker than what the prosecutor initially
anticipated and plea bargaining can save a questionable case.
Some defense attorneys want their clients to take a plea deal because they realize they are guilty and if convicted after a trial, their clients can get a more
o severe penalty. Some defense attorneys want their clients to plead guilty because they want to quickly dispose of the case and work as little as possible while still earning a profit.
