Student should identify and explain that content analysis is a technique for gathering and analyzing the content of text. They should then offer examples of how to employ this research method. Students may reference that crime and justice researchers have used content analysis for many purposes: to study themes in songs, crime and justice themes and trends in topics that newspapers cover, crime control ideology found in newspaper editorials, violence against women stereotypes in textbooks, television programs, and movies, depiction of race and crime in television commercials and programs, content of legal statutes, themes in magazine advertising, etc.
