Answer to Question 1

(1) jaw and (2) rubber bushing.

Answer to Question 2

Compression inserts may be pinned, bolted, or molded to the coupling hubs. Shear type inserts are usually bolted or clamped to hubs. Compression types tend to work better for higher loads and shear type can withstand more misalignment and provides better shock absorbing abilities. In general, all elastomeric couplings compared to other types work better in applications where shock and vibration are a problem.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
