Answer to Question 1

Answer: There is a perception that girls' self-esteem plunges at adolescence. There actually is a small decline in self-esteem during middle school that is very similar for boys and girls. However, girls' self-esteem does not increase as fast as boys' does between middle school and high school, leading to a larger sex difference in self-esteem during those years.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Self-esteem is moderate during elementary school, dips during the early teen years, and then increases during high school and young adulthood.
