Answer to Question 1

D

Answer to Question 2

Hydrocarbons are organic substances, so they can be broken down, or biodegraded, by microorganisms. The oil dissipates and breaks down, becoming food for various microbes.
Some natural undersea oil seeps have occurred for millions of years, and the ocean ecosystem seems unaffectedor even enhancedby them (because oil is a source of energy). Other types of pollutants last far longer and can do much more damage than an oil spill.
