Answer to Question 1

ANS: T
Internal waves are progressive waves that occur at the junction between water layers of different
densities. Internal waves move slowly because the density difference between the joined water masses
is very small. they are important because they can mix nutrients into surface water and trigger plankton
blooms and can also affect submarines. Internal Waves Can Form between Ocean Layers of Differing
Densities

Answer to Question 2

ANS: T
The orbits of water molecules begin to flatten out as a wave enters shallower water. This alters the
waves behavior. Information can be found in the section The Behavior of Waves Is Influenced by the
Depth of Water through Which They Are Moving.

It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.
