Answer to Question 1

Explain why a legal office professional should have high ethical standards.

The very nature of the type of work completed in an attorney's office demands high ethical standards on the part of the legal professional. The National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) has identified ten canons by which all members of their association are bound. These standards exemplify the conduct required not only of every member of NALS but of all legal professionals everywhere.

Answer to Question 2

Explain the types of certifications legal assistants, secretaries, researchers, and other workers have available. Certification such as the Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) or the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) can be attained by meeting the educational requirements and passing the required examinations through IAAP.

With one year of legal experience or the completion of an approved training course, a person can acquire the basic designation of Accredited Legal Secretary (ALS) through the testing process offered through the National Association of Legal Secretaries.

You can earn a paralegal certificate from a number of public and private schools that offer those programs.
