According to Frisch there are three main reasons why individuals choose to join a terrorist movement. First, family members, friends, or individuals in the recruit's social network are going to join or have already done so. Second, the recruit, family members, or members of the recruit's social network have strong grievances against the government. Three, deep religious and/or political beliefs inspire the recruit to fight for a cause. Often there are no other jobs, the recruit needs money to support himself and his family, and joining provides the family with services and assistance that the government does not. Occasionally, some terrorist groups coerce people to join, an unwise strategy because they are candidates to leave the movement and become informers. Some fighters switch from one movement to another because they will be paid better. Games, comics, graphic novels, and videos are to indoctrinate children and attract recruits.
