Answer to Question 1

FALSE

Answer to Question 2

Rule enforcer: Rule bound and inflexible in discipline and have an esprit de corps with others sharing their enforcement philosophy
Hard-liner: Hard, aggressive, power-hungry, and inflexible in applying rules and possess little interpersonal skill
People worker: Have a more comfortable style with inmates, are more flexible in rule enforcement and disciplinary measures, use their own informal reward and punishment system, and believe that the way to gain inmate compliance is through interpersonal communication and personalized relations
Synthetic officer: Synthetic officers try to modify the formal policies and procedures to emphasize organizational directives and interpersonal skills. They follow rules and regulations closely, yet they try to consider the circumstances. They are careful not to deviate too far from procedure, however, which might cause sanctions for themselves.
Loner: Closely follow rules and regulations because they fear criticism of their performance
Farkas added three residual types that were identified by respondents in her study: officer-friendly, lax officer, and wishy-washy.
