(1) Intelligence-led policing operates under the assumptions that a relatively small number of people are responsible for a comparatively large percentage of crimes, and that officers will have the best effect on crime by focusing on the most prevalent offenses occurring in their jurisdiction. Intelligence is not synonymous with information. Rather, information plus analysis equals intelligence. Intelligence is what is produced after collected data is evaluated and analyzed by a trained intelligence professional.
(2) Predictive policing is another relatively new law enforcement concept that integrates approaches such as cutting-edge crime analysis, crime-fighting technology, intelligence-led policing, and more to inform forward thinking crime prevention strategies and tactics. Police monitor crime data and query a computer system for historical and real-time patterns; they can predictmore systematically, over a bigger area, and across shifts and time spanswhere crimes are likely to occur.
(3) The fusion center coordinates all response and counter-terrorism elements within a community or metropolitan area. As information or intelligence is gathered by local and federal agencies, it is fed into the center and analyzed. Once analyzed, terrorist threat or activity information is generated and supplied to affected constituents. The fusion centers include medical personnel and fire department personnel as well as law enforcement personnel. The fusion center also allows for more comprehensive planning and a better coordinated response should a terrorist event occur.
