Answer to Question 1

d

Answer to Question 2

ANSWER:Wagner
sought to create a master artwork (Gesamtkunstwerk) through a fusion of all
the arts.
He was against realism, instead choosing most of his stories from German myth.
He set his dramas to music, not only to avoid the realistic mode but also to control the way
the text was performed.
He wanted to create a theatrical experience so overpoweringly empathetic that the
audience would be drawn out of its everyday, mundane existence into an idealized,
communal, near-religious experience.
His theatre in Bayreuth theatre eliminated the box, pit, and gallery arrangement.
Instead, the building embraced a democratic configuration, with seating laid out in a fanshaped
pattern that aimed at fostering equally good seeing and hearing conditions for all
audience members.
The auditorium was always darkened during performances in order to distinguish
between the everyday world (the auditorium) and the ideal realm (the stage), into which
the performance sought to pull the audience.
