Answer to Question 1

Linework is applied to one side of the paper and color on the other. This facilitates quick color application and alteration without dimming or smearing the line work. Color can be also applied to both sides to obtain more values. The paper needs to be transparent or translucent. Copies scan and copy just as if the color and linework were all on one side. This technique might be used when a quick rendering needs to be produced.

Answer to Question 2

Each plan of an object or interior space should have a different value. Simple objects only need three: light, medium, and dark. The darkest value plane should have the most detail. Lighted areas show less detail than shaded ones. Areas in shadow shouldn't have any detail added at all.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
