The mouldings are much less expensive than the hand-carved originals
They are lighter weight and therefore easier to handle
They may be nailed, drilled, or screwed
They are receptive to sanding
They help save on installation costs, because, in many cases, the original moulding consisting of several pieces, but modern technology reproduces multiple mouldings in a one-piece strip
