  a. Known as paper gold, SDRs are based on the value of five major Western
  currencies. They are to be used as a stop-gap measure to meet chronic balance of
  payment deficits by countries that have currency shortfalls.
  b. SDRs are the equivalent of petrodollars, and are used by OPEC countries to invest
  in Western industrialized states including the United States.
  c. Known as Lenin's gold, SDRs were used by communist states to facilitate trade
  between each other.
