Answer to Question 1

unit systems record number of units ordered, received, in stock, or sold; inventory control (book) keeps records of dollar value of merchandise ordered, received, in stock, sold, transfers, and returns; physical inventory is the actual item-by-item count of all merchandise in stock to confirm computer records.

Answer to Question 2

check sales figures; compare to previous week, month or year to see if sales increasing or decreasing; vendor analyses; use ratios such as average gross sales, sales per square foot and stock turn to evaluate success and do better planning in future
