ANSWER: Answers will vary depending on the students creativity. Children can be taught about proper nutrition in games, experiments, and during snacks and meals basic concepts of health, hygiene, and safety can also be taught. Families should be involved and family food preferences and eating patterns considered. Children should be taught rationale for health and safety behaviors.

ANSWER: Answers will vary. Refer to the chapter for specifics of the following: effects of poor nutrition, poor housing, and lack of proper medical care insufficient diet negatively affects physical, cognitive, and social development low height and weight for age are linked with lower cognitive maturity.
