Answer to Question 1

ANSWER: An open recording method is one that records the details and lets the reader make inferences or judgments about the meaning of the recording (e.g., Anecdotal
Recording). A closed recording method records specific observations of the observer in a predetermined format (e.g., Developmental Checklist).

Answer to Question 2

ANSWER: A set of sequential criteria against which the observer can measure a childs progress in development in specific areas covered by the criteria. The observer records the presence of a skill or behavior, which indicates by the absence of a mark those skills or behaviors that have not yet appeared.
