Answer to Question 1

ANSWER: False

Answer to Question 2

The appropriate role for the computer is as a tool for enhancing literacy development. It is not critical that young children learn how to actually use the computer beyond this purpose. Locating books in local libraries can often be done quickly through on-line catalogs. Uploading and downloading free programs, audio clips, on-line author interviews and podcasts can be a low cost means of increasing communication and content if the appropriate training and equipment is available. The use of computers along with books can help children develop a sense of multiple literacies, in that they will need to develop an understanding of the vocabulary and language inherent in computer use in order to go beyond a book when their curiosity takes them there.
