The criteria include determining the childs motor ability to use a keyboard and mouse, using the computer for legitimate purposes related to the learning goals, using the computer to reinforce and enhance literacy development, and using software that encourages children to engage in thinking and language production activities. In addition, software for young children should allow them to explore, imagine, solve problems, use their knowledge, include multisensory stimuli, and control the speed and direction of the program.
