Answer to Question 1

Teachers should offer support and a protective environment in the early childhood education setting to children who come from substance-busing families. They should develop trust by providing consistent, predictable, and reliable care. For the parents, they should try to establish a relationship and communication. The teacher should be consistent, predictable, and culturally competent.

Answer to Question 2

Teachers can model prosocial behaviors and help children have a greater sense of selfacceptance and self-esteem. Children can be praised and recognized for good behaviors and redirected away from aggressive behaviors. Teachers can also provide a safe haven from a difficult home life for a few hours a day.
