Standardized assessments are consistent and are taken by a large number of learners under the same conditions. They have a defined outcome, but have demonstrated issues with reliability and may increase teacher stress. Authentic assessments are alternatives to high-stakes tests, and look at how children respond to real-world scenarios, generally focusing on higher-order thinking skills.
