Answer to Question 2

Answer: Down syndrome is a congenital disorder involving profound mental retardation. The disorder is induced by the presence of an additional twenty-first chromosome. After age 30, a Down's person will experience brain atrophy and degeneration (a similarity to that of Alzheimer's disease). Alzheimer's disease (AD) involves dementia, which first appears as a memory difficulty. AD is associated with severe degeneration of brain structures such as the hippocampus and neurocortex. Both disorders are characterized by abnormal intracellular abnormalities.
