Answer: Words are formed by brief duration sounds, whereas longer duration sounds convey emotional content. The latter include pitch and melody of speech as well as slower changes in rhythm.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Damage to Wernicke's area and to the posterior language area produces an aphasia syndrome that includes poor speech comprehension, poor repetition, and the production of fluent but meaningless speech. Damage to the posterior language area only produces poor speech comprehension and poor speech production.
