Ms. Burns is a fifth-grade teacher in an urban, midwestern city. She has been teaching for eight years at Edgewood Elementary and is very concerned about the changes in students that she has observed over the years. Ms. Burns has 31 students in her class this year. Approximately 50% of her students live in poverty, 75% live in single-parent homes, and many of her students need one-on-one attention from an adult.
