Mr. Miller is an elderly gentleman, otherwise in excellent health, who has had diminishing vision for the last six months. Examination revealed him to have a cataract formation in both eyes. He desires treatment of both cataracts. On discussing his options, it was recommended that he undergo cataract extraction of one eye now and the other eye in a couple of months. He agrees with the recommendation and presents today for extracapsular cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation of the right eye. Surgery was performed uneventfully and the patient is discharged back to his nursing home, where he will be followed by the house physician. The cataract extraction of the opposite lens will be scheduled for eight weeks from today.
