Answer 1

This topic is designed to stimulate thought and debate. The primary message, hopefully, is to make students aware of the consequences of unplanned growth at destinations. Some students will end up in positions of senior responsibility within the industry and, if they remember that tourism can also have negative effects, they might be willing to push through ideas that could help slow down or reverse the unfortunate consequences of rampant tourism expansion not based on careful planning. Excessive growth from any psychographic segment can result in a decline in the quality of the experience at a place, although attracting a dependable audience will likely accelerate negative changes since these persons more often contribute to heavy commercialism because they want their experience to be similar to what they encounter at home.

Answer 2

Since the dollar was relatively weak between 2000 and 2004, more Americans would have vacationed domestically and this definitely helped the cruise lines because most cruises embark from U.S. ports.
