Answer 1

Determining why tourism arrivals are dropping will never be an easy task but it is essential. A new exciting property may have opened nearby and some freshening of the current place is needed. Advertising may have grown stale and lost its punch, or perhaps the ad budget got chopped last year. Also the destination may need to be repositioned to attract a new type of traveler (a not infrequent need in the marketplace). This latter point is especially true if the type of visitor has changed gradually over the years from a more venturer type to the dependable side of the scale. Dependables, as pointed out, travel less and spend less when they travel and can contribute to destination decline. But they also can be an attractive segment if their needs are understood. When the problem is identified, then work on solutions can begin.

Answer 2

In the cruise line industry, most sailings during winter occur in warm weather areas like the Caribbean. During other seasons when the weather turns warmer, other destinations worldwide are visited.
